This Wheeling client moved into her dream condo unit but wanted to bring in design elements from her original space to make it feel more like home. She wanted OHi to update the kitchen and primary bath by putting in a walk-in shower with a bench, adding built-in storage, focal tile in the bathroom, and a two-toned kitchen with a brand new range hood. With a few touches, our team turned this basic unit into a timeless treasure.
Hoping for everything to look polished while creating a sense of serenity, this homeowner opted for a neutral, earthy palette throughout every room. While neutral can often be equated with clean simplicity, the client wanted one aspect to stand out and act as the focal point: the bathroom wall. She chose a stunning floral tile that is a full-height backsplash for the vanity and acts as a mosaic wallpaper. The colors pull the room together and make the vanity mirror pop. Not only does the tile wall help draw guests' attention, but depending on the tile selection, it can be really easy to clean.
Before: The kitchen was dull, with light tan cabinets and rounded hardware. There was no backsplash, just a beige wall. The flooring was a brown laminate. The countertops were cream laminate, and the sink and faucet were white. There was a stainless steel and black stove with a matching microwave above it. There was a double-door fridge with ice and water dispenser. There were only recessed cans for lighting.
After: The microwave has been moved to the peninsula, and there is now a nickel-finished hood above the stove with a glass trim. The space feels lighter with the added under-cabinet lighting and two silver pendants above the peninsula. There is an added lower countertop on the peninsula. There are quartz countertops throughout. The bottom cabinets are now a light honey beige with silver hardware. The upper cabinets are a cream with silver hardware. The floors have been replaced with a light beige LVT.
Before: The bathroom was dark, with a small tub in a cove. A half-wall of large square tile surrounded it, and a single light was situated above the tub. There was ceramic tile flooring throughout the space. The vanity was light wood with round hardware.
After: The tub has been removed, and there is now a walk-in shower in its place. The shower has a clear glass sliding door, penny round tile floor, and shower niche. There is a bench with a quartz bench seat. There are dual shower silver shower heads and a handrail for accessibility. The space is lighter with light large format tile floors and a toilet in the cove next to the shower.
