Wanting an updated look, including brick tile, gold fixtures, and two-toned cabinets, these Elk Grove Village clients approached OHi to help get them everything off their wish list. In turn, our team helped open up and brighten their space, while adding special features, like an island and custom dog cabinets. The final look is fresh, modern, and homey.
The original space was far too claustrophobic for this young family. With a fresh layout and wall removal, the new kitchen expanded through the dining room and allowed for better visibility into the family room. The expanded layout also removed the peninsula, creating room for a cozy island perfect for the kids to sit at and work while the parents were cooking.
Another element that helped make the space feel more open was the decision to expand the cabinets to the ceiling after removing the soffits, making the space feel taller. We also updated the flooring throughout first floor so it matched in all connecting rooms, helping create a seamless and cohesive look.
Before: A wall separated the kitchen from the dining room, making the kitchen tight on space. The cabinets were an old maple. There was no ventilation for the range. There was no backsplash tile and the soffits in the ceiling stunted the height of the cabinets.
After: The wall between the kitchen and dining room is removed. Two toned cabinets are installed. A brick tile backsplash stands behind the new range, complete with proper hood ventilation. The floors are a fresh, light tone to help the space feel brighter and more open.
