Part of Chicago’s Legacy for Five Generations

Christian Kautz began providing his community with carpeting services in 1900, installing carpet alongside his grandson, Ray, for the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933. In 1967, Ray and his wife Kathryn opened a storefront, Carpets by Ray & Sons, which resulted in a second store opening in Buffalo Grove in 1977.

Ray, a father of six boys, employed his sons in his stores when they were old enough to work. He taught them everything, from the product, to the installation, to the importance of building meaningful client relationships. As the business continued to grow and offer new services for our neighborhood, we changed our name to OHi. Today, we specialize in improvements for the entire home, as well as commercial interiors for healthcare facilities, student housing, and multi-family housing.

Ray and Kathryn built their business with service at its foundation. That commitment carries through to everything we do today.

Even as other companies choose to outsource their work, we stay true to our roots and employ professional interior designers, product specialists, project managers, and expert craftsmen to ensure the highest quality possible with minimal sub-contracting. We work with the highest quality products, all available in our one-stop showroom. And we emphasize proactive communication that minimizes the need for reactive defense.
