From Dead Space to Dynamite Basement Arcade

From Another Decade
Early on in this project, these clients knew they wanted a highly stylized space that felt vintage. The only problem was that they couldn't decide if they wanted their space to be reminiscent of the 1980's or 1970's. As a result, the first draft of this project design was filled with bright primary colors and confetti speckled carpet to mimic the look of an 80's arcade.
While the couple agreed the design was delightful and spot on for 80's decor, they ultimately decided they wanted to try a design that felt more authentic to the 1970's. Their designer then changed the stripe's color palette and suggested a subtler flooring option.
In the original space, there were quite a few exposed pipes along the original cinder block wall. While our team was able to paint the ceiling black, helping minimize the pipe look, we had to come up with a creative solution for the pipes on the wall. The answer was soffits. Both vertically, and horizontally, our team used drywall soffits to hide the pipes. While this slightly disrupted the stripe, which was the focal point of the room, the change ended up creating contrast and dimension to the space, as well as providing a ledge.
