1990

Flooring Roots

The Kautz' great grandfather, Christian starts a flooring business,

offering floors throughout the Chicagoland area.

1933-1966

Chicago World's Fair

Christian Kautz and his son further establish their name in the industry by laying Carpet at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair.

Historical Chicago Sites

Ray Kautz, Christian's grandson, continues the family legacy and makes a name for himself in the flooring business by laying carpet in in Chicago hot spots like The Drake Hotel and the Chicago Theater
1967-1977

First Physical Storefront

Ray opens a retail storefront, naming his business Carpets by Ray & Sons.

They open a second store located in Buffalo Grove in 1977. Their two sons, John and Nick grow up learning how to install carpet.
1980s-Now

Expanding

Nick Kautz Sr. strikes out on his own, continuing to bring carpet to the masses, expanding their reach,

combining both commercial and residential opportunities. Meanwhile, his brother John begins to experiment with home design.

Becoming A Design Build

Nick Sr. has the idea to expand his family's legacy into full-scale remodeling.

He invites his brother John to join him and together they open OHi - Our Home Improvement.
