From Cooking Exile to Hosting Paradise

These Arlington Heights social butterflies wanted to open up their kitchen to make room to entertain. Their main goal was a large island with space for cooking, serving at parties, and daily socializing. Our team created a hosting dream by adding a large four-seater island, removing the half wall that surrounded the space, and updating the backsplash. The kitchen now flows seamlessly into the dining and living room with the continuous flooring we put throughout the condo.

The Walls Came Tumbling Down

The original kitchen was enclosed by a half wall with posts on either side. It allowed for the homeowners to see and talk with anyone in the hall and living area but ultimately separated the cook. Having the wall between the kitchen and living area also broke the flow of parties and made the kitchen congested. Our designer removed the wall and widened the space by eliminating the hallway. This created space for the island and made a natural flow through the kitchen.

The client’s one dream is to have a stand-up kitchen mixer and a place to store it. The designer made her baking dreams come true and created a customized storage pull-out, the perfect size for a stand-up mixer, which was also functional for storing other appliances.
