From Whimsically Eclectic to Moving Day Ready

While these Arlington Heights clients loved their colorfully playful kitchen, as empty nesters they knew they planned on moving into a smaller home eventually. This encouraged them to remodel their admittedly tight kitchen space in order to help it be more functional and more likely to sell. Shortly after the project was complete, an out of state job offer lead these clients to putting their home on the market sooner than originally planned. The house sold five hours after being listed. The muted color scheme, clean lines, and improved layout the OHi team envisioned paid off.

Making Safe Choices

While it was undeniable that the original kitchen could use updated cabinets and new countertops, it was challenging for our clients to not make decisions based on personal taste. However, as this wasn’t going to be their forever home, and they were intending to sell it down the road, they curbed their personal preferences as much as possible with the help of our designer in order to make selections that may appeal to a larger market. Yet, they planned to live in the home for a few more years and wanted elements to remain fun. They achieved this through accent details.

Functionality was by far the bigger problem. Our team tackled this by rearranging and updating the appliances and encouraging our clients to invest in a stove hood instead of relying on an above microwave vent. With that change made, we relocated the microwave and had it inset among the cabinets. The fridge also shifted positions.
