With a Christmas party guest list of at least 60 people, these Prospect Heights clients desired a spacious kitchen with abundant seating. The dark and drab floor to ceiling wood panels had to go in favor for a brighter and lighter interior that welcomed every family member or friend.
With an active family, revolving door of guests, and packed cooking schedule, these clients wanted their kitchen to be the epicenter of the home. It was where family would first walk-in, where hours were spent perfecting a recipes sure to wow, and where guests would linger to chat. The only problem was the previous space offered a choppy layout, poor ventilation, improper storage, and an environment that made guest want to be anywhere else. Luckily, our team met their needs and created an incandescent space with plenty of storage and an open-concept layout. The most popular storage solution was the custom drop-off cabinet. It was a cabinet built near the door that had plugs to charge phones, space to store leashes, and, of course a standard spot for keys so in the morning rush no one has to think twice about where they might be. The cabinet design fits seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen and has a convenient door to hide any clutter that may build up in the space.
Prospect Heights
Before: An inexplicable wall divided the cooking space from the pantry, cause the kitchen to feel cramped. The layout did not allow for anyone to sit in the kitchen to keep the cook company. The storage was lacking, and the heavy brown wood panels that covered the walls, ceiling and cabinets were enough to make anyone give up cooking forever.
After: White cabinets surround a glorious kitchen island, all in warm, inviting earth tones that brighten the room. Sparkling light fixtures hang above the island, adding a splash of glamour. After the dividing wall was removed, the space now feels ten times bigger, and allowed for creative storage solutions, such as a knife and utensil pull out.
Before: No island existed and the counterspace was limited. With the dividing wall, there was not enough space for an island, yet our clients desperately wanted one for meal prep and serving.
After: With the wall removed, a 10 foot by 4 foot island was installed and is now the focal point of the room. The homeowners chose quartzite after falling in love with the look, feeling it would help elevate the space and add a special touch of elegance. The island allows for ample seating, and added storage solutions.
