FIRST FLOOR REMODEL

Storage that Makes a Splash

For the mudroom, the client desperately needed better storage space to organize their pool supplies. We replaced their piecemealed cubbie storage unit with a built-in floor-to-ceiling cabinet perfect for pool noodles, floats, and towels. We built an alcove for the washer and dryer, topped with a quartz counter to give them a place to fold clothes. Initially, they had a freestanding utility sink but rarely used it, so we replaced it with a smaller one with a base cabinet to further maximize their space. The designer wanted to make the space feel as light and fresh as possible, as the homeowner uses the space daily.

Additionally, the client initially had a counter space right off the kitchen in the living area. It was used as a makeshift bar and landing area for their keys, mail, and miscellaneous items. They wanted to turn the landing space into a functional bar to display their liquor collection. The designer increased the countertop space and opted for glass-fronted cabinets. With the  Taj Ma Hal quartzite, glass chevron backsplash tile, and cinnamon-stained cabinet base (to match the kitchen cabinets), the bar became a showstopping piece that gave the entire remodel a bit of glam and dazzle.

What Will Your Kitchen Cost to Remodel?

Find Out

The Kitchen

Before, there was a peninsula in the center of the space with a broken cooktop. There was a soffit around the entire perimeter of the space. The cabinets were all oak wood. There was a cabinet above the double oven and no ventilation above the cooktop. There were laminate countertops.

After: The peninsula is removed, and there is now an island. The countertops have been replaced with white quartz, and the base and tall cabinets have a cinnamon stain. The upper cabinets are painted white with a brushed glaze. The hardware is now black and stainless. The soffits have been removed, and there is now a 6-inch crown molding detail above the cabinets. The oven cabinet has been removed, and there is now a stainless steel range and matching ventilation hood.

The Mud Room

Before: There was a white washer and dryer next to the garage door that had a hanging rack on it. There was a large slop sink next to the washer. There was a cubby storage unit parallel to the washer and dryer. There was a small squared ceramic tile floor.

After: The cubby storage unit is replaced with floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinets. The flooring is replaced with LVT to protect against pool water in the summer. The washer and dryer have a built-in alcove to allow for space to fold laundry on a remnant countertop. The slop sink is replaced with a small sink. Upper cabinets are added for additional storage.
