After remodeling the rest of their home, these Elk Grove Village clients decided it was time to remodel their upstairs hall bathroom. The goal was to give the space a fresh look that matched the rest of their home's design. With fun details, such a rustic floating shelves, matte black faucets and built in towel storage, this bathroom design quickly won over the clients.
While this bathroom is breathtaking, the impact comes from the marriage of many smaller details. Two shining examples are the rustic wood and the black accents employed throughout the room. The client came into the project specifically requesting the use of wood as a ledge behind the sink. Our designer then mimicked the wood in floating shelves and in the built-in cabinet and towel holder. The black accents in the faucets, mirror trim, and tile trim add a contemporary flair to the space as well as a bit of contrast against the bright white subway tile throughout.
Ultimately, while no color is used in this space, the warm brown of the wood and the cool matte black help break-up the monotony that is sometimes found in all white bathrooms.
Before: The 90's styled vanity was a grainy wood, with no drawers. It was topped with a tan countertop and a long continuous mirror hung above it. The faucets were standard, single handle chrome fixtures with little style.
After: A custom console vanity in natural walnut steals the show, complete with drawers and an open shelf along the bottom. The black hardware matches the new matte black widespread faucets that add an industrial hint to the space. Two individual, round mirrors hang above the faucets and the durable quartz countertops.
Before: Beige, square tiles cluttered the shower, and made the space feel dark, dated, and cramped. The tub was in a similar shade of tan. There was no storage, besides a ledge behind the tub.
After: A white subway tile is employed throughout the entire bathroom, making it feel spacious, bright, and clean. A two tier niche is added for storage, allowing for the quartz topped ledge to act as a proper bench or tub deck. The ledge is now extended over a custom nook, perfect for storing towels, in a natural wood to match the floating shelves.
