Embracing Limitations

Originally, these clients envisioned  knocking down a wall between the dining room and kitchen to create an open-layout kitchen. However, upon further inspection, it was found that the wall in question was a major structural wall including vents and electrical work that would be both complicated and expensive to move. As a compromise, our designer presented a new layout in which they created a smaller opening connecting the kitchen to the dining room. This left a wall dividing the room, but the opening still made the kitchen feel more spacious. They updated the wet bar in the adjacent room to tie the new kitchen's design into the rest of the home.

With a strong desire for more storage, our team found a way to create extra space in almost every aspect of the design, whether it be in drawers under the window bench, island shelves, or floor-to-ceiling spice racks that pull out along the sides of the standalone freezer.  At the request of the clients, we created a separate space for a refrigerator and freezer, with a custom cabinet door to hide the freezer. This creates a cohesive, uninterrupted cabinetry design.
