This Arlington Heights client loved to host family and friends, but their space wasn't ideal for entertaining. The kitchen, dining, and living room were all divided, and the kitchen had minimal workspace. They approached OHi because they were tired of how dark and segmented their home was. Our team opened the first floor into one seamless entertaining space, updated the cabinets and countertops, built a large island with an eat-in extension for additional seating, added cabinetry by the back door for their pet supplies, and updated the two upstairs bathrooms. Their home is now soaked in sunlight, and the perfect spot for friends and family to gather.
Before: The space was tight and closed off; it was a U-shape with a peninsula separating the kitchen from the eating space. The fridge was bulky and blocked the walking path. There were grey granite countertops with painted white cabinets. A soffit above around the kitchen's perimeter made the room feel smaller. There were deep brown wood floors.
After: The peninsula and soffits have been removed, and the space is more open. The wall separating the kitchen area and dining room has been removed, and the large sliding glass door has been replaced with a small traditional door. The floors are Audra wood stained light grey. There is now a large island with an extended eat-in. The cabinets are wood-stained Gray to match the floors. The sink has been replaced with a farmhouse sink. The refrigerator has been moved to the back wall and is flanked with cabinets for added storage. The space is brighter and more expansive.
Before: The room was dark with beige walls and a small window. There was a small vanity with white laminate countertops and two white cabinets. There was a black shelving unit about the toilet and a square black mirror with three outdated vanity lights above it.
After: The walls are now white, and there are four off-white open shelves above the toilet. The toilet has been updated to a slimmer model. There is now a light wood floating vanity with quartz countertops, an under mount sink, and a brushed nickel faucet. Above the vanity is a square LED mirror.
