This nature-loving Arlington Heights family longed for a kitchen that connected them to the great outdoors. They approached OHi, asking for a deck in the backyard with a door to access it from the kitchen. Our team opened the door to the outside and expanded their tight kitchen into the dining room, creating enough storage space for all their belongings. We put in a farmhouse sink with a window above it for them to keep an eye on their children in the backyard. The gold hardware and white countertops combine to create an airy feel while also reflecting and amplifying the natural light.
For this client, the best part of waking up is coffee in her cup, which is why we built a beverage center and coffee bar. Our designer used the same wood from the island for shelves above the coffee bar to further tie in their love of nature. She mounted puck lights underneath them to illuminate the beverage center, making it a focal point of the kitchen. We also installed tall cabinets around the center, which makes for a stunning border and ample storage.
Before: The kitchen featured dark wood cabinets lowered by the soffits; the kitchen was a tight U-shape with limited counter space and workspace. There were granite countertops, a small sink, and a microwave hood instead of a ventilation hood.
After: The wall separating the kitchen and dining room is removed. The soffits are removed. The kitchen has more workspace. The stove has been moved to the back wall with a new white ventilation hood. There are fresh white cabinets with gold hardware. A large island in the center with a quartz countertop and oak cabinets. There are white appliances with gold accents. There are three gold pendant lights above the island.
