For these Rolling Meadows clients, remodeling fever got a hold of them after recently completing an addition. They decided it was time to give both of their bathrooms, one covered in blue floral wallpaper, the other in Pepto Bismol pink tile, a new look worthy of this century. With a desire for a clean, attention-grabbing space, our team leaned into a gray pallet, textured tiles, and a mesmerizing accent mosaic.
Not wanting to clutter the shower with shampoo bottle and body wash, our clients didn't want a shower niche front and center the way it is often done. They also loved the tile they selected for both the showers and wanted to ensure that it stood out immediately. As a result, our designer put a smaller niche in the hall bath along the shower head well in the same subway tile as the rest of the shower so it seamlessly blended in.
Similarly, the clients hated shower curtains not only because it made the space feel truncated, but because they hide the clean, simple beauty of the shower's tile. For this reason, they upgraded to have a glass door installed in one, and a knee wall enclosure for the other.
Before: The shower was covered in bubble gum pink tile, a shade brighter than the dull pink tile found on the floor. The cabinets showed signs of wear and tear, and lacked storage access. The bathtub shower combo was hidden by a shower curtain.
After: A shelving tower is added, along with the other quality cabinets of the vanity. A faux wood floor-tile helps subtly tie the room together. The bathtub-shower combo is enclosed with a sliding glass door.
Before: A vintage, blue floral wallpaper covers every inch of drywall, interrupted only by a sky blue tile in the shower. The shower was enclosed by a rain glass door, accompanied by a worn shower pan. The vanity is a light wood, that appears very dated. The faucet is clunky and grimy after years of use.
After: All traces of wallpaper are removed and replaced by drywall. The shower is left open, partially enclosed by a knee wall covered in a textured gray tile continuing from the shower cavity. The shower head is now a rain shower head. The shower floor is covered in an intricate basket weave tile. The vanity has been replaced with a clean, contemporary piece. The sink faucet is now sleek and stylish.
