Dog Days Are Here to Stay

While making their basement the perfect hangout for the family, one of the most important factors was ensuring there was a dedicated space for their three dogs. The humans of the family may like to pretend that the basement is their domain, but everyone secretly knows it actually belongs to their three fur babies. To help make the space complete, our designer added two important details. The first was to create two alcoves with the cabinetry to match the rest of the basement. One alcove was for the large dog's crate. The second alcove, a little wider, housed two crates for the smaller dogs. Both were topped with quartz countertops for any work or prep space that may be needed. 

The second dog-friendly addition was to include a dog shower. This way, the dogs wouldn't track water throughout the house if they got away. Instead, the sleek handheld shower system was included in a water-friendly area of the basement.

The Basement

Before: The ceiling was composed of textured, lay-in ceiling tiles. The flooring was 12x12 square tiles, popular in the early 2000's. The old cabinets were honey oak. There was no storage for the dog crates, and minimal cabinets. 

After: Gorgeous, coffered tiles now compose the ceiling. New, water resistant LVT is installed on the floors in a light gray, which helps brighten the space. The cabinets are replaced with a rich brown to add depth, including alcoves for the dogs.
