These Arlington Heights clients wanted to update their wood-coated space and optimize storage. Our team reconfigured the placement of their appliances, removed the peninsula, replaced it with a long white island that houses the microwave, and added a built-in beverage center. Our team turned this space into a brilliant white gem.
The main component of elevating this space involved creating places to hide the more mechanical elements of a basement, such as a furnace and water heater. By creating individual closets and rooms for each component, they could break the basement into unique spaces while also adding a bathroom. Our team relocated many of the elements to make the space more functional. However, they had to get creative when it came to the location of the furnace. Initially, the spot where it needed to be accessible was supposed to be a wall. The solution: include a 360-degree door that allows it to be easily reached.
Before: The kitchen was cut off by a peninsula with cherry wood cabinets and granite countertops. The stove and range top are built into the peninsula. There was a large built-in cabinet unit along the left wall and tall windows on the left. There are three recessed can lights above the peninsula.
After: The peninsula has been removed, and the layout is reconfigured. There are now light tan wood floors and a long white island in the center of the space. The chrome double-door fridge is on the left side next to the oven and range. On the right, the windows have been shortened, and the sink is below them with white cabinets along the sides.
