BASEMENT REMODEL

Closet Conundrum

The original basement layout had an underutilized closet along the back wall. The closet contained the one window of the space, which our team needed to transform into an egress window for the basement to meet code requirements. This meant relocating the closet to a different section of the basement without detracting from the openness of the envisioned floor plan. The final result was perfect, as the egress window allowed natural sunlight to flood the space, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere.

The Basement

Before: The basement was lined with paneled walls (with no insulation behind them), tiled floors, and paneled ceilings with fluorescent lights nestled throughout.  There was a closet along the back wall, including a small window.

After: A bar, including an island and wine storage, is installed. LVT flooring is installed throughout the basement, including the staircase. The window is replaced with an egress window, helping the space meet code requirements. The paneled walls are replaced with drywall and a stacked stone backsplash in the bar area. The closet is removed, extending the length of the central area.
