Alder and maple are light and bright—great for smaller kitchens. Hickory cabinets bring in a masculine touch for rustic spaces.

Surface Style

It's also important to consider what style of cabinet door fits the space best. Flat panel and slab cabinets create a sleek, minimalist look, while glass inset cabinets provide an open, modern finish and showcase favorite dishes. Reverse panel doors offer added architectural interest, showcasing the grains of the wood. For a traditional look, raised panel cabinets include detailed molding.

Doors And Drawers

Cabinet and drawer styles can significantly improve the functionality of the kitchen. Deep drawers offer a more economical use of space, but doors can also be fitted with a pullout shelving system. Modern additions like soft close hinges will protect the cabinets and make them safe for everyone in the family.

Although going for bold, bright colors may be one's first instinct, many homeowners opt for a neutral color like white.
