When these Arlington Heights clients custom-built their home, they opted for an extra deep basement to allow for high ceilings. Their reasoning? They dreamed of installing a golf simulator. When they were finally ready to finish their basement and make their dream a reality, they approached OHi to help create a space that included everything from a playroom and full bathroom to a gym and an under-staircase beverage center. The final product is a homey space, complete with features both adults and kids can enjoy.
Wanting to preserve a little family history while also adding another splash of their personality, this family requested that OHi rehabilitate a door from their old garage into a sliding door for their basement gym. Our carpenters excitedly took on the special project and cleaned up the door (only a little bit, though, because the family wanted to preserve the character, including any knicks and ings it may have already had). They then painted it black, attached it to tracks, and ensured the opening to the gym was large enough to accommodate the door. This helped further the personalization that can be found throughout the space, whether on the sports memorabilia wall or the must-play golf simulator.
Before: The basement was left unfinished. There were no divisions between the rooms. The flooring was cement. Every support beam was exposed.
After: Drywall covers the wall and ceiling. Soffits enclose any exposed pipes. Window treatments cover the egress windows. A gorgeous wood-look LVT is installed on the floors. There are clear doorways delineating new rooms. The under-stairway space has been supported and transformed into a beverage center.
Before: The basement was dug extra deep when these homeowners custom-built their home. The unfinished space showed an exposed ceiling along with cement floors. A makeshift basketball court originally filled the space.
After: drywall is added, and the ceiling is installed with a few soffits to hide pipes. Canned lighting helps brighten up the space. Faux grass flooring is installed to mimic a golf course. The gold simulator is installed. Intricate molding lines the walls surrounding the outlet.
