Hoping for a space better suited to hosting guests, these clients approached OHi to help them achieve an open concept kitchen. The only problem was that the wall separating the kitchen from the living room was a load bearing wall. With a few creative solutions from the OHi team, however, we were able to open up the space, improve storage and add a jaw dropping island. As a bonus, we reworked their laundry room to create more storage and a comfortable place to house their dog’s crate.
Not only do these homeowners love to host friends and family, but they also love to cook. Which further inspired them to totally transform their kitchen from countertops to appliances. They decided to invest in chef-grade appliances and a custom ventilation hood, which was a vast improvement from the inadequate microwave ventilation system they had been working with. This paired with a brand new island created the perfect environment for whipping up the best recipes.
With a great work space for food prep, this kitchen deserved to have all the bells and whistles, including a wide variety of storage accessories. This allowed for everything to have a specific space, making the process of cooking even easy. The final result definitely deserves a chef’s kiss.
Roselle
Before: Closed off from the living room, the kitchen had standard builder grade cabinets that didn't fully extend to the ceiling. There is an awkward peninsula that jutted into the main cooking space, making it awkward to get around. The floor tile was standard and "blah".
After: Elegant and glamorous, the kitchen includes a pantry wall of cabinets, including a french door refrigerator with a a paneled front to create a seamless look. The countertops are high grade quartz, perfect for cooking. all the cabinets extend to the ceiling. The wall between the kitchen and living room and kitchen is torn down and replaced with a few posts for support. The flooring is replaced with hardwood.
Before: Lacking in storage, the laundry room originally had a simple floating shelf, countertop and closet to hold any coats or laundry supplies. The flooring was the same tile used in the kitchen, and the brown oak was featured prominently. It felt dark and chaotic. The washer and dry were two different colors.
After: Upper cabinets were added above the folding countertop and above the now matching washer and dryer. The sink is surrounded by countertops that match the new quartz used for the folding station. The flooring is replaced with a luxury vinyl tile that helps brighten up the space.
