BASEMENT REMODEL

Designed for Fun

This couple loved nothing more than entertaining their closest friends and family, taste-testing micro-brewed beers and nitro wine while watching the game. This is why when they dreamed about their basement remodel, they dreamed big. This was not a design made for compromises. They had visions of a spacious wet-bar, complete with seating and storage, the perfect place for an impressive tv, as well as plenty of room to gather. For added kicks, they included a dartboard and shuffleboard to ensure there was always something fun to enjoy.

Prior to the remodel, the couple used the unfinished basement to house their workout equipment; it became paramount to the design that a space be dedicated to a state-of-the-art workout room. After relocating the water-heater for more space, the room began to take shape with perhaps the most exciting feature of the basement: a rock-climbing wall.

The Bar

Before: A wall separated the stairs from the right-hand alcove. An egress window existed, but not much else apart from cement floors and insulated walls.

After: A sleek, contemporary bar is constructed including a sink, storage, and a mini-fridge. The peninsula bar was hand-crafted using poplar wood, and accented with metal detailing. The wall separating the stairs is removed and replaced with a railing, helping the space feel more open and inviting.

The Sitting Area

Before:  An egress window exists to ensure a safe space. The floors were the cement foundation, the ceiling consisted of exposed wood beams, and the walls were exposed insulation.

After: Knew flooring is installed throughout, creating a seamless feel. The ceiling is insulated and covered with black metal. The walls are covered by drywall and painted a light gray. Floating cabinets are installed beneath the tv. Arm sconce wall lights, along with can lights are added.  For fun, shuffleboard and a dartboard are included.

The Workout Room

Before:  Another alcove including the water heater existed and functioned as a makeshift workout room. The ceiling is exposed wood beams, the flooring is cement, and the insulation is showing.

After: The support beams are encased by decorative wood. The water heater is moved and placed inside a closet. The walls are covered in drywall and the ceiling is covered in black metal. Rubber floors are installed on top of the cement.
