In dire need of updating, this Woodridge couple reached out to OHi to make their kitchen brighter and lighter. They asked our team to remove the soffits and create a flow accommodating their family and pets. We removed the peninsula from the original kitchen and added a large island that looks out to their backyard, so they can watch their kids in the pool while cooking. It also opens the floor plan into the family room. Our team turned their monotonous brown space into a dynamic black-and-white masterpiece.
These homeowners’ dogs have their whole hearts, but they left the walls full of scratches and holes from begging to go out. So our team decided to use Wainscott paneling to cover the holes and prevent the dogs from leaving any more scratches on the drywall. This beautiful paneling adds a level of dimension and character to the space. Our carpenters made the paneling to match the cabinetry to carry the architectural design throughout the kitchen.
To add another level of pet protection, we replaced the original hardwood floors with more durable LVT flooring and continued it throughout the living room to make one cohesive space. These clients also recently put in a pool, so we opted for LVT floors since they are the best option for being durable and waterproof. Now they don’t have to worry about the kids tracking in water from the pool.
Before: The kitchen featured old wood cabinets that were limited in height by a soffit. There was no island but a peninsula that acted as a divider between the kitchen and living room. There was a microwave hood instead of a ventilation hood. There were worn-down wood floors in the kitchen, and carpet in the living room. There are laminate countertops.
After: New white cabinets are installed and extended to the ceiling after the soffit removal. An island is added, and the peninsula is removed, making the living room and kitchen feel more connected. LVT flooring is installed throughout the entire first floor, giving it a seamless appearance. The walls are painted a light gray. A new backsplash is installed, along with black quartz countertops to provide a little contrast. A stainless steel ventilation hood is added above the range.
Before: The kitchen walls were standard drywall with basic baseboards. The walls had many scratches from the homeowner's pets. The window framing matched the wood of the baseboards.
After: Our craftsmen added custom wainscotting to help add a protective layer to the walls. it also added an element of dimension. The baseboards are new and painted white to match the rest of the wall. New windows are installed, including matching white trim.
