KITCHEN REMODEL

Don’t Wing it!

When our designer and project manager went out for their standard walk-through to make notes on different structural elements and room measurements, they noticed the wing wall our clients hoped to knock down to create an open layout, was actually a structural wall. Since they were prepared, our designer was able to turn the wing wall into a peninsula that serves as a breakfast bar. Since the wing wall had to stay, the space for the requested island was slightly reduced, but our designer utilized the pinch point to create open ended seating. Ultimately, despite structural barriers, with the right amount of planning and preparation, our team was able to check off everything on our clients’ wishlist.

The faux painted, stucco walls and ancient appliances made the cramped kitchen feel like an afterthought of our clients’ home. The updated space has an open feel, thanks to making the wing wall into a breakfast bar peninsula that looks into the dining room. Increasing storage was a top priority, as well as creating a fluid space perfect for cooking, working and everything in between. To achieve this, our designer included a desk, complete with a a filing cabinet and quartz desktop that matched the countertop material, making it an extension of the kitchen space. A contemporary look is achieved through clean lines, geometric light fixtures, high-tech LED can lights, and a simple color palette.
